I have this post in one of my pages but i want to post it again for my friends…
ABU DHABI, the capital of the United Arab Emirates and THE RICHEST CITY IN THE WORLD.
The emirate’s 420,000 citizens sit on one-tenth of the planet’s oil and have almost $1 trillion invested abroad.
…….Yet most people couldn’t find Abu Dhabi on a map.
Oil was first discovered in Abu Dhabi in 1958, followed by further discoveries in Dubai and Sharjah. Offshore oil exports began in 1962 and onshore exports a year later. In just four decades, the revenues from oil and gas have transformed the pearl-diving community of Abu Dhabi into one of the wealthiest cities in the world, where gleaming high-rises soar from an artificial oasis of lush gardens and palm-lined avenues.
Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates which make up the UAE, occupying almost 87% of the country’s total area.
Sabkha (salt flats) line much of Abu Dhabi’s coastline, but inland the emirate is comprised of sand and gravel desert.
Our group of nurses from Madinat Zayed Hospital went out to take some photographs around the Al Gharbia Region (Western region ) of Abu Dhabi for an upcoming Emergency Conference… we visited Liwa Hospital a 45-minute drive from Madinat Zayed. After that, we decided to head on to Hameem ( still part of Liwa, a further 2 hour drive away. We stopped along the way to Qasr Al Sarab to take some photos during the sunset.
Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara is a luxurious oasis in the midst of the Liwa desert located in legendary Liwa Desert in the Empty Quarter, the largest uninterrupted sand desert in the world.
Liwa is home to some of the World’s tallest sand dunes and stunning deserts.
It is part of Rub Al Khali or Empty Quarter is one of the largest sand deserts in the world, encompassing most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula, including most of Saudi Arabia and areas of Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
The desert covers some 650,000 square kilometres (250,000 sq)
The Rub al Khali, also known as The Empty Quarter,
is the combined size of France, Belgium and Holland.
It is the biggest sand desert in the world with the largest sand dunes, some up to 300 metres high.
Geologically, the Empty Quarter is the second most oil-rich place in the world.
